WHITE BEAR LAKE — Nicki is the winner of our latest Facebook giveaway. She wins a dinner for 6 at Donatelli's this Mother's Day (or when convenient). But such a conundrum, Nicki is a Mother. Nicki has a mother. So will Nicki celebrate her Mother or Celebrate herself? Stay tuned.

If you haven't Friended us on Facebook, think about it. We won't bomb you with useless crap you don't want. We'll tell you about specials and sweepstakes and once in awhile throw in a special offer.

Check out what this extraordinary dinner includes for a party of 4 or more: 2-3 shared appetizers, a family bowl of salad, 2-4 shared entrées, and an individual dessert. It's a recipe for conversation and fun, no matter the occasion!

WHITE BEAR LAKE — Imagine walking into a restaurant staffed entirely by 5th graders.

That's what Governor Mark Dayton encountered Tuesday at Donatelli's in White Bear Lake, where the servers, cooks and greeters were all interns from Willow Lane Elementary.

This was the 4th year of the program, that intends to teach kids how to apply for and actually perform a restaurant job for one hour.

All of their tips went to HopeKids which is a support group for childhood cancer patients and their families.

WHITE BEAR LAKE — For 35 years now Donatelli’s has served up its handmade Italian fare not just to paying customers but often free of charge to support local events.

Trish Appleby and Steve Donatelle, owners of the restaurant on County Road E, are recipients of "The Spirit of White Bear Tourism Award."

The award is given out every other year by Explore White Bear, a nonprofit aimed at promoting businesses and recreation activities in the area. A committee of its board members selects the honoree. Recent recipients were Pat and Carol McFarlane and the Jacobson family from Pine Tree Apple Orchard.

Every year at Donatelli's we invite the kids from St. Andrew's Academy to spend a day in the life of a Donatelli's staff member, as part of an annual fund raising effort. The youngsters greet customers, wait on tables, prepare & serve food, box leftovers and bus dishes. Parents and siblings watch as the kids try to balance food while keeping their cool. It's a tad chaotic at times, but so much fun for everyone involved. Check out our gallery of photos...
